How do I Use Interlibrary Loan?
Dunham Public Library is a member of the Mid-York Library System which consists of 43 libraries in Herkimer, Madison and Oneida counties. Patrons are able to seamlessly borrow items from all of the member libraries. If the item is not available in one of these libraries, Library Reference staff can assist a patron in borrowing outside the system. This network extends throughout all fifty states.
Find it on the Catalog
In System requests may be made in person at the Library Information Desk, by telephone, or online through the Mid-York catalog. Patrons may search with their library card and PIN number. Type these in the two boxes on the right hand side of the library homepage. The second box is for the PIN Number. This is typically the last four numbers of the phone number given for the library card. If you don’t know your PIN simply call us at 736-9734 or stop by the library.
Interlibrary Loan: Outside the System
To request an item directly from the Mid-York catalog, click on Can’t Find It? in the online catalog. You must be logged in with your library card number for this to be visible. Requests may also be made in person at the Information Desk or by phone at 736-9734 during regular library hours. Please allow a minimum of one to three weeks for your item to arrive.
Patrons will be notified whether or not the item can be procured. Items ordered from outside the system include:
- Books published after 1840;
- Books more than one year old:
- Books out of print;
- Microfilm and microfiche;
- DVD and VHS video recordings;
- CD’s and cassettes;
- Photocopies of articles from magazines and journals.
Items borrowed from outside the System can usually be renewed once. All items borrowed from outside the system must be renewed in person and returned to the Library that originated the request. Due dates are set by the owning/lending Library and may not be the same as the usual lending policies of Dunham Public Library.
